Alien the RPG: Ideal for One-Shot Adventures

The Alien franchise is one of my favorites, so I was excited when I heard Free League launched an Alien RPG. This setting and system are perfect for a One-Shot adventure or a series of connected One-Shots with different characters. You could also have a central character, like Ripley, or a villain like David link your One-Shots together.

I recently ran an Alien One-Shot called the Disciples of Perdition. The characters were the crew of the USCSS Artemis. The ship was en route to explore Pandia 244B when they picked up a strange signal. The message is a sermon about the book of Revelation and the end of the world. Long-range scans identified it as coming from a ship in orbit around the planet, the USCSS Perdition. It left Earth over forty years ago. BTW a One-Shot doesn't mean one-session. The Disciples of Perdition ran five game sessions (about 15 hours)

I felt that running a longer campaign was more challenging in this setting. While Free League has done a great job at providing an expanded universe (which I definitely used), this setting runs a higher risk of fatigue if you let it drag out too long.

If you are thinking about running an adventure in the Alien universe, you can pick up a copy of the Free League core rule book on DriveThruRPG. It's important to support more niche publishers because it encourages them to produce more content.

Drop me an email if you want a copy of my (rough) game notes. If you have your own thoughts on an Alien One-Shot, include them in the comments section below.

P.S. I am not affiliated with Free League,  20th Century Studios, or the Walt Disney Corporation. I'm just a fan of the franchise and the game.
